"The intrepid Famous Fourteen and their 2 dogs set off from HT early (for a Saturday...) on the 13th June.
After a scenic drive up to Harthope Valley we set off straight up Scald Hill. After 2hrs of view-watching and huffing and puffing and coughing and straining (that was just the Leader), we reached the stile onto the flat top of Cheviot and 5 minutes later were at the Trig marker and the highest point in our wonderful county. Phil reinforced himself with the home-brew, as did a few others - then it ran out!!
The homeward stretch was uphill and downdale. Found a frog in a bog, and a large raptor circled lazily above us, the latter slightly disconcerting. The final descent to the cars was well-received with few complaints. The Leader was carried down in triumph, to the cheers and hurrahs of all the participants - Cheviot had rarely seen anything like it. (Ed - are you sure?)
We'd walked about 10 miles, the dogs at least 20, we were all happily tired, ready for tea and a hot bath. Then the home brew..."
